ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 4, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's swimming team is ranked No. 6 in the nation according to the CollegeSwimming.com / Endless Pools Top 25, and
junior Louise Moores (Mukilteo, Wash.) was named the Empire 8 Swimmer of the Week for her performance at last week's Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
Emory is No. 1 and Kenyon is No. 2 with Denison, Hopkins and MIT rounding out the top five. The College of New Jersey is No. 11 as Stevens is the only Empire 8 institution in the poll.
The Ducks are officially 2-0 this year after wins at Misericordia and NYU. Stevens will host No. 4 Johns Hopkins January 19 and visit the 11th-ranked Lions January 27.
Moores earned four individual wins at the ECAC's to lead the Ducks to their second-straight ECAC title.
She clocked an NCAA B-cut in the 100-yard backstroke (55.56), an A-cut in the 100-fly (55.24), a B-cut in the 50-free (23.45) and a B-cut in the 100-free (51.12). All four times were ECAC records.
Moores was also a part of 200-medley relay that earned a win, B-cut (1:44.50) and ECAC record, the 400-medley relay that did the same (3:53.61), the 200-free relay that tallied a win and B-cut (1:35.93) and the 400-free relay that carded a 3:29.40, won and recorded a B-cut. It was the second-straight year Moores was named Swimmer of Meet at the ECAC's.
After a training trip to Aruba to start 2013 action, the Ducks will welcome Hopkins to Hoboken on January 19 for an 11 a.m. dual.
