WEST POINT, N.Y. (November 6, 2013) – Junior 149-pounder
Mike Polizzi and junior heavyweight
Chris Florek earned wins for the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team in a dual-match at Division I opponent Army.
Stevens dropped the match, 30-6, falling to 1-2 overall, with both losses coming at the hands of NCAA Division I teams in the United States Military Academy and Northwestern University.
Polizzi – ranked sixth nationally at 149 pounds in the Brute/NWCA Poll – tallied his second win of the season (2-1) as the junior defeated Ryan Bilyeu in an 11-9 decision.
Florek, who saw his first dual-match action of the season Wednesday night, downed David Farr by a score of 5-1, giving the Ducks a pair of victories in the dual.
Freshman
Colin Navickas and senior
Ryan Dormann both wrestled solidly for Stevens, dropping decisions, 12-5 and 5-2, respectively.
"We had two very strong wins from
Mike Polizzi and
Chris Florek tonight," Head Wrestling Coach Mike Clayton said. "Army pushed a strong pace but I am proud of how hard our guys battled. This was a great opportunity for our program to go up against another very good DI program to start our season."
Stevens will head up to the Binghamton Open Sunday, November 10.
