HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 6, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team jumped out to a 14-6 lead against Lycoming College in Canavan Arena on Wednesday evening but dropped the final four bouts and the match, 24-14. With the loss, Stevens is now 5-8 on the season, while Lycoming improves to 7-7.
Sophomore
Anthony Geiger (South Amboy, N.J.) kicked off the match at 125-lbs. with a 2-0 decision win over Cody Barbiche for three opening points. In the next bout at 133, freshman
Ryan Wilson (McVeytown, Pa.) prevailed over Zach Finn by way of another decision, 13-7.
Lycoming got on the board at 141 to cut the Ducks' lead in half (6-3) before sophomore
Mike Polizzi (Montville, N.J.) shut out Matt Neff, 11-0, for four points and the major decision triumph. Polizzi is now 19-3 on the season at 149-lbs.
After another decision win for the Warriors at 157 to make the score, 10-6, senior
Joey Favia (Brick, N.J.) rolled past Greg Wetzel in the 165-lb. showdown, 15-7. The four-point major decision was the last victory for Stevens in the match.
With a 14-6 cushion for the Ducks, Lycoming seized all the momentum from the match and scored two decision wins and two fall victories over the final four bouts to claim the match.
Stevens will travel to Gettysburg College on February 9 for a Centennial Conference tri-match against the Bullets and Washington & Lee University.
