Wrestling Tops W&L and Gettysburg in Centennial Conference Tri-Match
HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 8, 2014) – The 29th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team rolled to a pair of Centennial Conference wins Saturday in the Canavan Arena. The Ducks defeated Washington & Lee University, 45-3, and followed that up with a 42-9 throttling of Gettysburg College.
With the wins, Stevens improves to 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference. In the other match, W&L defeated Gettysburg, 27-18. W&L is now 1-10 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Gettysburg is 1-7 in Centennial Conference matches and 4-16 overall.
In the 20 bouts on the day, Stevens earned six wins via fall and tallied a total record of 16-4.
"The guys wrestled well and we are still getting some guys back in the lineup and others back to 100 percent," Head Wrestling Coach Mike Clayton said. "I think we'll be very competitive by the time our East Region rolls around at the end of the month."

Frederick Perrine took wins by forfeit at 125, 133 and 141 to open the day's action with rookie
Justin Becker notching a victory by fall 1:29 into his bout with freshman Andrew Donchez to give the Ducks a 24-0 edge.
Sophomore
Leo Wortman made it five-straight Ducks' when he earned an 8-2 decision at 157, and junior
Conner Bass recorded the Ducks' second pinfall win of the afternoon, dropping freshman Mac Evarts at 2:15 of the first.
W&L got on the board with a decision at 174, but junior
Zach Bass earned a decision over sophomore Zac Richey to make it 36-3 Stevens. Senior
Ryan Dormann picked up a win by fall at 197 to make it a 42-3 match and junior
Chris Florek followed with a decision over sophomore Grant Cokely for the final margin.
Stevens 42, Gettysburg 9
Murray started Stevens off with a win by fall 4:16 into his match at 125 to get his team off to a great start and finish the day 2-0. Sophomore
Dillon Guarino pocketed a win via forfeit to make it 12-0 Ducks, and Gettysburg won bouts at 141 and 149 to trim the hosts' lead to six at 12-6.
Six would be a close as the bullets would come as the Ducks ripped off four-straight wins to open a 36-6 lead. Wortman picked up a win by fall 19 seconds into his match at 157, and
Conner Bass earned his second win of the day by forfeit at 165.
Freshman
Tristan Hollenbaugh won by fall over junior Pat Thomas at 174, with Dormann making it a 2-0 day thanks to a victory by forfeit at 184. Stevens dropped its bout at 197 to make it 36-9, but Florek tallied the Ducks' final victory of the day – a win by fall – to make it a 42-9 final.
Stevens will close the home portion of its season with a dual-match against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The match will serve as Senior Night with the Stevens seniors being honored mid-way through the dual. All the action can be seen live at

During Saturday's action, Stevens also recognized alums that were in attendance and the wrestling program hosted a gathering for all alumni, fans, family and friends of the program post-match.
