NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 29, 2015) – The No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team knocked-off No. 21 New York University 28-12 Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
The match was a part of the annual Grapple at the Garden and was the Ducks third win in as many appearances at the prestigious event, and second over NYU. With the win, Stevens moved to 4-1 on the season.
Junior
Rob Murray got the Ducks started with a win at 125 lbs., however NYU responded with a technical fall win at 133. Senior
Ryan Wilson and sophomore
Zach Wilhelm answered for Stevens after that though, first with Wilson's pin at 141 before Wilhelm's decision win at 149.
The fall was the first of the season for Wilson.
NYU picked up wins at 157 and 184, however it's all they would get the rest of the match as junior
Colin Navickas won by major decision at 165, sophomore
Phil Woods won by major decision at 174, sophomore
A.J. Kowal won by fall at 197, and senior
Tyler Maher won by decision at 285.
With the win, Kowal moved his win total to team-leading 14, while the pin was his fourth.
The Ducks will be back in action Friday for day one of the Messiah College Invitational.
