ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 9, 2015) – Two Members of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball collected ECAC Honors this past fall. Freshman libero Sydni Horner and sophomore outside hitter Mary Tobin were both named to the 2014 Division III ECAC Metro/Upstate Second Team.
Horner, who also claimed Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors, led Stevens in digs with an average of 5.01 per set. She had a season high 40 digs on September 20th against Houghton College. She finished second in the conference in total digs, claiming second place by a mere four digs.
Tobin, who garnered First Team All-Empire 8 honors, led the Ducks in kills with 484 and in points per set with 3.96. Her 484 kills led the conference, while also placing first in total attack attempts. She recorded 20 or more kills four times during the season, with a season high 29 coming on September 27th against Coast Guard. The Boothwyn, Pa. native also finished second on the team in digs behind Horner. ?
Women's volleyball finished with an impressive 33-7 record, including a perfect 8-0 record during the Empire 8 regular season. The team, led by third-year head coach Glenn DeHaven, won the E8 conference tournament and advanced to the Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament. The 33 wins were tied for the third most wins recorded by a Stevens women's volleyball team in school history.
