HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 5, 2013) – Stevens Institute of Technology's cross country and track & field head coach
Justin Wood announced the hiring of
Ozzie Brown as the head assistant coach for men's and women's track & field this week. Brown begins his duties immediately at Stevens after serving as an assistant for track & field at St. Lawrence University since 2011.
"I am excited to have Ozzie join the coaching staff, said Wood. "He brings a unique skill set with experience as a national caliber student-athlete combined with significant coaching experience at the NCAA Division III level. We also share similar philosophies on development of student-athletes within the sport of track & field so I expect a quick and smooth transition."
While at St. Lawrence, Brown developed and implemented training programs for sprinters and hurdlers and assisted in the development of strength and conditioning for a majority of the roster.. His secondary duties in Canton, N.Y. included game management and facility maintenance.
Before arriving at St. Lawrence, Brown coached two seasons at his undergraduate alma mater, Moravian College, in Bethlehem, Pa. from 2009-11 where he held similar assistant duties. He also spent time at Gwynedd Mercy College in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. for the 2008-09 season.
Under his guidance, Brown has instructed eight individual or relay All-Americans to go along with 34 national qualifiers. More impressively, 58 school records have fallen as the various institutions while Brown was present.
He obtained a Master's Degree from St. Lawrence in Educational Leadership this past summer and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from Moravian in 2008.
As a student-athlete, Brown was a five-time USTFCCCA Track or Field Athlete of the Year and a two-time national champion, earning titles in the decathlon and long jump. Along with the national titles in 2008, he was an All-American in the 55-meter hurdles in 2007 and 2008.
