HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 9, 2013) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis freshman
Matthew Heinrich (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was named the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Year as all six members of the Ducks' starting lineup received All-Conference recognition.
Heinrich, senior
Chris Rosensteel (East Windsor, N.J.) and senior
Shota Tasaki (Greenwich, Conn.) were named to the First Team as singles players, with Heinrich and Rosensteel also garnering doubles honors. Rosensteel, a two-time Player of the Year, and Tasaki both end their careers as four-time First Team selections.
Freshman
Tyler Tisdale (Grapevine, Texas) made the Second Team for singles while Tasaki and freshman
Ben Foran (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) were named as a doubles squad. Senior
Derek Smith (Boise, Idaho) was recognized as an Honorable Mention for both singles and doubles, along with Tisdale, who was also named Stevens' Sportsman of the Year. Head Coach
Steve Gachko was also named Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season.
The Ducks posted their third straight undefeated conference record (7-0) and won an unprecedented fourth straight Empire 8 Championship this season. Stevens defeated Baruch College,
5-0, this morning to advance to their fourth straight NCAA Championship Second Round, where they will face No. 22 University of Mary Washington (14-10) tomorrow, Friday, May 10 at 9 a.m. A full preview of the match will be available later today.
