Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Mahnken (Bayville, N.J.) was selected as Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Mahnken played a crucial role in Stevens' 2-0 week which included the team's eighth Engineering Cup title on Sunday. The Ducks (3-1) tallied a pair of 1-0 victories over the weekend against Vassar College and New York University.

In the opener against Vassar, Mahnken made four saves in all 90 minutes of action and backed that performance up with eight more stops in the championship match versus NYU on Sunday.

On Sunday, she came up with three remarkable saves – all of different varieties. After Stevens took the lead in the 13th minute, NYU fired off a point blank shot that forced Mahnken to make a diving denial to her left with 17 minutes to go in the half. Just a few minutes later, the Violets ripped a strike towards the top left corner, but Mahnken was there to deflect the shot off the post. Her final crucial save took place in the second half on a chip shot in which Mahnken snatched out of the air with one hand.

She has posted three shutouts in as many collegiate starts for the Ducks and has made 13 saves in 32 shots faced over 270 minutes in goal.
