Sophomore Mike Polizzi (Montville, N.J.) earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championship by winning his weight classes at East Regional in Gettysburg, Pa. on Saturday. Polizzi claimed the 149-lb. title with a perfect 4-0 mark and helped Stevens to a seventh place finish with 70 points.

Polizzi was named the Regionals Most Outstanding Wrestler after defeating the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked opponents in his weight class. Polizzi began the regional with a pin of Tim Gainsborg of McDaniel College in 1:27. He then moved on to the second round and pinned New York University's Matthew DiGiovanni in 1:40. In the semifinal match, the sophomore toppled third-ranked Emmanuel Ajagbe of Delaware Valley College by a 3-1 score in sudden victory. Polizzi completed the perfect bracket with an 11-6 decision over No. 1 seed and nationally ranked No. 2 Mark Hartenstine of Wilkes University.

The national championship will take place on March 15-16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
