Senior Joey Favia of the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team picked up his second consecutive All-American performance at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Saturday, March 16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Favia placed fifth overall, the same position as 2012, with a 3-2 overall record over the two-day championships.
Favia is only the second Stevens grappler to earn multiple All-America honors and continues the string of four straight seasons that a Duck has finished within the top eight nationally. Ryan Bridge was a two-time All-American in 2010 and 2011.
The Brick, N.J. native completed his senior campaign with a 32-3 overall record and a .914 winning percentage at 165-lbs. His 32 victories ties the fourth-most ever at Stevens, while his .914 winning percentage is the highest percentage in 31 years of Stevens wrestling. Favia is also just the third wrestler ever at Stevens to tally two 30-plus win seasons.
Over his four seasons in Cardinal and Grey, Favia amassed 119 victories which are the second-most in program history. He wraps up his illustrious career with an .804 winning percentage to move into third all-time.
