The Empire 8 Conference released its weekly awards this afternoon and Stevens Institute of Technology senior women's soccer student-athlete Caitlyn Labonte (Northbridge, Mass.) was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Labonte played an integral part in the Ducks' 2-0 victory against New York University on Sunday afternoon in the 10th Annual Engineering Cup. She shut down the NYU forwards from capitalizing on runs through the Stevens back line and knocked away any chances the Violets had at open shots on goal.

Stevens went 1-1 over the weekend but outshot its opponents, 46-10. At the conclusion of the Cup, Labonte was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the tournament. The Ducks and Vassar College shared this year's cup with nine points based of the scoring system of the tournament.
