Freshman Christina Sciarra (Montclair, N.J.) of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team was named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week today after her performance in Stevens' 3-1 win over Vassar College on October 16.

Sciarra tallied 14 kills on 27 attempts with just three errors for a .444 hitting percentage and added three digs. Over her past seven matches, Sciarra has recorded double-digit kills in five of those contests.

In last Wednesday's evening victory over Vassar that lifted the Ducks to a 21-5 record, Sciarra put down five kills in the first set on 10 attempts leading the Ducks to a 25-22 triumph. She was almost equally as impressive in the set two loss with four kills in seven swings and was nearly perfect in the third set with three kills on four tries. In the final set, Sciarra added two more kills on six attempts.
