Sophomore Chris Vaughan is this week's (March 24-29) Stevens Male Athlete of the Week after leading the men's volleyball team to a pair of victories over nationally ranked opponents.
On March 22, Stevens topped United Volleyball Conference foe and No. 5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology in four sets and then took down No. 11 Baruch College the following morning by a 3-1 outcome.
Against MIT, Vaughan recorded a match-best 17 kills on 32 attempts and one error for a .500 hitting percentage. He also added seven digs, four blocks and one service ace.
In the four-set win over Baruch on Sunday, the Medford, N.J. native tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs to go along with four aces and a pair of blocks. Vaughan once again hit at an efficient rate with a .476 clip (11K-1E-21A).
Overall, he hit .491 in the two matches and averaged 4.56 points per set. For the season, Vaughan leads Stevens in points (309), kills (265), points per set (4.01) and kills per set (3.44). The sophomore is also second in hitting percentage at .342 and third in digs (145), total blocks (48), aces (18) and digs per set (1.88).
He was named AVCA Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday, March 25.
