Trevor Miele

On June 2, Director of Athletics Russell Rogers (Branchburg, N.J.) announced the hiring of Trevor Miele (Dix Hills, N.Y.) as the new head swimming coach at Stevens Institute of Technology.  Miele, who spent the past four years as an assistant coach with the New York University men’s swimming team, will look to build upon the success of the men’s and women’s squads at Stevens as both teams earned second-place finishes in the Skyline Conference during the 2005-06 season.

Over the past four years, Miele has experienced a great deal of success with the men’s program at NYU.  In 2004-05, Miele helped lead the Violets to a 9-2 record and their first-ever ECAC Division III Championship.  Along the way, Miele was instrumental in the development of an NCAA All-American swimmer.

Then, in 2005-06, NYU experienced arguably the greatest season in school history as the team captured its second straight ECAC title and finished with an 8-1 mark in dual meets.  In the process, the Violets shattered 12 school records and earned their highest-ever finish at the University Athletic Association (second place) and NCAA Division III Championships (19th place).  Once again, Miele played a huge role as NYU produced four All-Americans and six All-America honorable mentions.  As a result, NYU was rewarded with ECAC and UAA Coaching Staff of the Year honors.  The Violets’ staff was also named ECAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2004.

While at NYU, Miele served as the Natatorium Manager and was directly responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating lifeguards.  He also managed natatorium events and taught recreation classes.  As an assistant coach, Miele was involved in the day-to-day management of the men’s team and coordinated the program’s recruiting efforts.  In addition to working directly with the Violets’ sprinters, flyers and backstrokers, Miele designed and implemented the NYU aquatic and dry-land training regiment.

A 1999 graduate of NYU with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Finance, Miele was a standout member of the Violets’ swimming team and qualified for the NCAA Championships in each his four seasons with the squad.  He earned All-America honors in the 100-yard butterfly on two occasions.

Prior to the start of the 2005-06 season, Miele was still the all-time record-holder at NYU in the 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard freestyle as well as the 200- and 400-yard medley relays.  Over the past season, six of Miele’s records were broken by student-athletes that he recruited to NYU.  He remains the Violets’ record-holder in the 100-yard butterfly.

A three-time team captain, Miele was named MVP of the Violets four times.  He received the 1998 NYU President’s Student-Athlete Academic Award.

Before beginning his collegiate career, Miele attended St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington, N.Y., and swam for the Long Island Aquatic Club (U.S.S.) for 11 years.

Miele earned a Masters of Science in Physical Education (concentration in Sports Management) from Brooklyn College in May 2006.  A native of Dix Hills, N.Y., Miele currently resides in Manhattan with his wife, Mary.
