Samella Koroma

Samella Koroma will join the Stevens Institute of Technology track and field programs as an assistant coach during the 2017-18 school year. Koroma comes to Castle Point from Virginia State University, where she was throws coach with the men’s and women’s programs from 2014-17.

Her throwing charges won six Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (Division II) titles for the Trojans, and she developed and trained All-American Phontavia Sawyer in the shot put in 2017.  She also developed the top two male freshman throwers in the CIAA Conference while receiving All-Conference Honors for the Indoor and Outdoor seasons, coached the new VSU Discus Record holder, received USTFCCCA All-Region Honors for the women’s shot put and women’s discus outdoors 2016 and developed and trained the first discus thrower VSU ever sent to the Division II National Championship.

"She brings a wealth of experience as an elite high school and college athlete along with several years of coaching at the NCAA DII Virginia State University.   I think that with Samella’s guidance the throws group can make huge advances at the conference, regional and national levels.”

Koroma is a member of the USATFCCA with a strength and conditioning certification and technical coach’s certification and a USAF member with a Level I certification. Koroma competed at Division I University of Richmond from 2007-10 and qualified for the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships in all four throwing events in all four years for the Spiders.
