Women's Fencing Improves to 14-3 With Three Victories At Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Junior Rensie Punsal (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) earned six victories without a loss in the foil as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s fencing team defeated Vassar, Hunter and Marist on Saturday.

Stevens, now 14-3 on the season, earned victories over Vassar (14-13), Hunter (16-11) and Marist (20-7).

The Ducks also had a strong showing in the epee as the top three fencers combined to go 23-3.  Sophomore Andrea Chimel (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and senior Ilyana Martinez (Union City, N.J./Union Hill) both went 8-1 while junior Lauren Fuchs (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) compiled a 7-1 mark.

Junior Jen Hsiao (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) also had a strong meet, going 6-2 in the foil.  Juniors Teresa Bustamante (Dover, N.J./Dover) and Poonam Patel (Absecon, N.J./Absegami) were the Ducks’ top entries in the saber with each compiling 4-3 records.

The Stevens women’s fencing team will host the Stevens Invitational on Sunday, February 23 beginning at 10 a.m.
