Women's Fencing Earns Three Victories at Hunter as Punsal Goes 10-1

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team recorded three victories in four meets at Hunter College to improve to 11-3 on the season.  Junior Rensie Punsal (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) went 10-1 in the foil to lead all Stevens fencers.

The 3-1 record on the afternoon gave the Ducks a second-place finish in the conference.  Stevens suffered its only loss in its opening meet against Drew, falling 19-8.  The Ducks then rallied and earned victories over Hunter (15-12), Yeshiva (19-8) and CCNY (18-9).

Punsal suffered her only defeat in one of her three bouts against Drew.  Junior Lauren Fuchs (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) also lost just one bout, going 7-1 in the epee.  Junior Teresa Bustamante (Dover, N.J./Dover) was the Ducks top competitor in the sabre, finishing 6-3.  Freshman Judith Generoso (Elmhurst, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) also had a 3-0 mark as an epee substitute.  She remained unbeaten on the season.

The Stevens women's fencing team returns to action on Saturday, February 15, when it travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for four meets at Vassar College.
