Barnhart leads Women’s Soccer to a 2-0 win over Montclair State

UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Senior forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) totaled a goal and an assist to help lead Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer past Montclair State 2-0 on Thursday afternoon.  It was the seventh consecutive shutout for Stevens, which improves to 12-0-1, while Montclair falls to 5-7-1.

The Ducks netted their first goal at 14:46 off a free kick on the left-hand side.  Senior midfielder Milia George (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) tallied her second goal of the season when she headed the ball in mid-air on a cross from Barnhart.  Stevens increased its lead to 2-0 at the 38:37 mark when Barnhart scored on a pass from sophomore back Cristina Fulgencio (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) and senior midfielder Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley).

Fulgencio has now recorded points in consecutive games, while Barnhart has scored in the Ducks’ last three games.

Sophomore Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) recorded the shutout for Stevens.

The Ducks return to action on Saturday, October 16 when they host Mount Saint Vincent in their fourth Skyline game of the season at 11 a.m.
