HOBOKEN, N.J. - The top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team cruised to an 8-0 win over fourth-seeded Farmingdale State in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference women's soccer tournament on Wednesday at DeBaun Field. Stevens advances to the championship game where it will face third-seeded St. Joseph’s on Saturday at 1 p.m. at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, N.J.
Stevens exploded for six goals in the first half of the game. Senior forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored Stevens' first goal of the game to notch her 200th career point at the 21:08 mark when she dribbled in and scored on a shot to the inside of the left post. Barnhart recorded her second goal of the game six minutes later on a cross from sophomore Heather Dean (Renton, Wash./Charles Lindbergh). Junior Lorrie Brabender (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) scored just over a minute later when she took a through ball from freshman back Sara Roeder (Portland, Ore./Sunset). Freshman midfielder Catherine Rotsides (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) notched her first goal of the game at 40:42 with a shot off the right post. Dean scored less than a minute later when freshman back Lauren Buroojy (Newtown, Pa./George School) set her up from eight yards away. Freshman midfielder Siena York-Carr (Davis, Calif./Davis Senior) scored the Ducks last goal of the half at the 43:11 mark with Barnhart and Rotsides assisting.
Rotsides added the Ducks seventh goal of the game at the 50:11 mark when she scored on a long shot with Farmingdale State goalkeeper Pam Baione caught out of the net. Sophomore back Cristina Fulgencio (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) notched Stevens' last goal of the game a minute later with freshman midfielder Heather Comerci (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) and freshman forward Gina Crifasi (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Tech) assisting on the goal.
Stevens held a 23-4 advantage in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) stopped one shot to earn her 13th shutout of the season. Pam Baione had seven saves for Farmingdale.
