HOBOKEN, N.J. - Six players combined for 10 goals as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team sailed past Mount Saint Mary 10-0 on Wednesday night at DeBaun Field. With the win, the Ducks tallied their eighth consecutive win of the season and 26th straight in conference play.
Stevens improves to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference, while Mount Saint Mary falls to 1-6-1 and 1-1 in Skyline play.
The Ducks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when senior forward Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsivlle, Pa./Boyertown) scored her ninth goal of the season off a rebound just 26 seconds into the game. At the 10:42 mark, sophomore forward Heather Dean (Renton, Wash./Charles Lindbergh) crossed it from the right wing to Barnhart who increased Stevens lead to 2-0 with a shot to the lower left corner. The Ducks scored five more goals to take a 7-0 lead going into the second half.
Junior midfielder Lorrie Brabender (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) gave the Ducks an 8-0 lead in the beginning of the second half off a pass from sophomore forward Jacqueline Hilt (Clifton, N.J./Paramus Catholic) from 20 yards away. Sophomore back Kiley Rode (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) notched her first goal of the season on a breakaway at the 50:55 mark with senior forward Saydra Battersby (New York, N.Y./ Fiorello H. LaGuardia) assisting. Freshman midfielder Catherine Rotsides (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) added her second goal of the game with 6:30 remaining in the half.
Stevens out shot Mount Saint Mary 25-1 in the game and goalie Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Gina Crifasi (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Tech) shared the time in net to combine for the shutout.
The Ducks will return to action on Saturday, October 2 when they travel to Elizabethtown for a 3 p.m. start.
