WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (November 19, 2005) – The College of New Jersey scored the lone goal of the game 30 minutes into the first half and held off a late charge by Stevens Institute of Technology to earn a 1-0 win in the sectional round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship on Saturday at Mercer County Community College.

The College of New Jersey (20-0) advances to the Elite Eight where it will meet the winner of Saturday’s second game between Otterbein College and Denison University.  Stevens, making its first trip to the sectionals of the NCAA Tournament, finishes its season at 20-3.

The College of New Jersey scored at the 30:04 mark of the first half.  The Lions took advantage of their third straight corner kick and took a 1-0 lead when Jamie Kunkel headed the ball into the net off a corner kick by Kristen Cubicciotti.

Stevens gained momentum over the final 20 minutes.  Senior Lorrie Brabender (Newark, Del.) lofted a hard shot with 15 minutes remaining in the game, but TCNJ goalkeeper Alissa Kacar picked up the save.  With less than 10 minutes to play, sophomore Gina Crifasi (Staten Island, N.Y.) had a chance to score the equalizer, but the ball bounced up over the crossbar and out of play.

The College of New Jersey held a 16-6 advantage in shots.  Junior goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J.) recorded six saves for the Ducks, while Kacar had two.
