ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (December 2, 2005) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team won eight of 10 matches, defeating Elizabethtown (37-6) on Friday, December 2. With the win, the Ducks now stand at 1-1 this season. Sophomores Ryan Bennick (Jim Thorpe, Pa.) and Brandon MacWhinnie (Barton, N.Y.) improved their dual records to 2-0 with wins at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively. Stevens also earned five of their wins from their freshman squad.
Freshman Mark Bistis (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) earned the Ducks first win of the night at 133 pounds to give the Ducks a 4-3 advantage. The Blue Jays answered back with the win at 141 pounds to regain the lead 6-4. After freshman Charles Favia (Brick, N.J.) picked up his first dual win of the season at 149 pounds, Stevens went on to win the next six contests to capture the match.
Freshman Chris Steffa (Drexel Hill, Pa.) earned his first dual win of the season by fall at 174 pounds over Wayne Hummer. At 197, freshman Pasquale Perrone (Nanuet, N.Y.) improved to 1-1 in dual matches with an 11-6 win over James Campolongo.
The Ducks are back in action on Sunday, December 4 when they compete at the Scranton Invitational in Scranton, Pa. beginning at 10 a.m.
