HOBOKEN, NJ – Junior Megan Legendre’s (O’Fallon, IL) goal with less than 15 minutes remaining in the contest was the difference in the Stevens Institute of Technology’s 1-0 victory over Vassar College Saturday afternoon at DeBaun Field in Hoboken, NJ. The victory is the fifth straight for the Ducks (5-1-0), who posted their fourth consecutive shutout on Saturday. Vassar drops to 1-3-1 with the loss.
Sophomores Gina Crifasi (Staten Island, NY) and Cristina Fulgencio (Staten Island, NY) set up the play for Legendre, who lofted the ball over Vassar goalie Lisa Strumwasser from 15 yards out that landed in the open goal for the Ducks in the 76th minute.
Stevens nearly broke through for a goal early in the second half when freshman Meghan Tennyson (Folsom, LA) lofted a shot over Strumwasser, which landed in front of the open goal and bounced off the cross bar.
The Ducks controlled possession throughout the contest, outshooting Vassar, 17-3, while holding a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. Junior Siena York-Carr (Davis, CA) had a team-high four shots, while junior Kiley Rode (Montgomery, NY) recorded three shots on goal for the Ducks.
Stevens junior goalie Erica Midttveit (Jackson, NJ) was not tested the entire contest, ending the match without a save opportunity. Strumwasser registered 10 saves for the Brewers.
Stevens return to action at DeBaun Field Wednesday, Sept. 21, against St. Joseph’s College at 7 p.m.
