MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 13, 2006) – Freshmen Natalia Sisti (Lincoln Park, N.J.) and Christina Della Fave (Bordentown, N.J.) each scored a goal as Montclair State University won its fourth straight contest with a 2-0 shutout over the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team on Wednesday evening at Sprague Field in Montclair, N.J. With the loss, the Ducks dropped to 1-2-2 on the year. Montclair improved to 4-1 with the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Kristin Kuhmann (Beachwood, N.J.) made six saves in the contest as the Red Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak against the Ducks. Senior goalkeeper Erica Midttveit (Jackson, N.J.) made seven saves in a losing effort for Stevens.
The Ducks had a prime opportunity to score in the first half as senior midfielder/forward Megan Legendre (O’Fallon, Ill.) intercepted a loose ball at the 12-yard line and fired a shot that Kuhmann came up with.
Following a scoreless first half, Montclair finally broke through just 79 seconds into the second period as Sisti drove on net and got off a shot that Midttveit initially stopped. Sisti’s persistence paid off as she poked the rebound into the back of the goal to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Montclair continued to generate several scoring chances in the second half, but Midttveit kept the game close as she made five saves in the final 45 minutes of the contest. The Red Hawks put the game away at the 77:12 mark as Della Fave scored on a header off a corner kick from senior midfielder Kelly Dutko (Hamilton, N.J.).
For the game, Montclair owned a 14-8 advantage in shots and 5-0 edge in corner kicks.
