Women's Soccer Tops RIT 3-0 in Empire 8 Action

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 6, 2007) – On Saturday, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team posted its third win in a row with a 3-0 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. The Ducks improved to 8-3-1 overall and ran their record to 3-1 in the Empire 8. The Tigers fell to 6-4-1 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

Following a scoreless first 40 minutes of the contest, Stevens scored three times in the span of 11:20 to grab control of the game. Junior forward Meghan Tennyson got the Ducks started as she converted off a feed from senior forward Gina Crifasi at the 40:36 mark. Just over three minutes into the second half, Stevens extended its margin to 2-0 following an own goal by RIT.

In the 52nd-minute, freshman back/forward Katria Misilo totaled her first career goal as she scored off a pass from junior back Hope Fulgencio. Freshman goalkeeper Jenn Pontier improved to 3-0 in her third career start as she made four saves in net. Pontier has not allowed a goal in any of her six appearances so far. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Conti (Canfield, Ohio) totaled seven stops for the Tigers.

For the game, Stevens owned a 13-7 edge in shots. The Ducks also had six corner kicks to just three by RIT.

Stevens will be right back in action on Sunday as it takes on St. John Fisher College at 1 p.m. That contest will be played in Rochester.
