HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 8, 2007) – Sophomore midfielder/forward Leslie Kallberg and freshman midfielder Mary Chew tallied one goal apiece to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the opening round of the 2007 Stevens Engineering Cup on Saturday at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, the Ducks improved to 2-1 on the year and advanced to the championship game where they will face New York University on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Stevens opened the scoring in the 23rd minute following a foul around midfield. On the play, senior back/forward Sara Roeder lifted a high ball that bounced near the top of the box. Kallberg cut in front of RPI freshman goalkeeper Meghan White (Kingston, N.Y.) and headed the pass into the back of net for her second goal of the season.

The Ducks put the game away with just over five minutes remaining in the second half as Chew lofted a left-footed shot from 22 yards out on the top left corner of the box that sailed over White's out-stretched arms and into the right side netting.

Sophomore Sherri Rosenberg and freshman Jenn Pontier split time in goal for Stevens. Neither goalkeeper had to make a save in the contest. White finished with three stops for the Red Hawks, who fell to 2-1-1 with the loss. Stevens out-shot RPI 22-1 and owned an 8-0 edge in corner kicks in the game.

Sunday's match between NYU (4-0) and Stevens will be carried live at www.Empire8.tv. The Ducks will be seeking their fourth straight Engineering Cup title. The consolation game between RPI and North Park University (0-3) will be played at noon. North Park suffered a 6-1 loss to NYU in Saturday's second game.
