MONTCLAIR, N.J. (September 17, 2008) – Senior midfielder Salme Cook scored her second goal of the game during the overtime period at the 91 minute mark to propel the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team passed Montclair State University by a 2-1 count Wednesday afternoon in Montclair, N.J. Cook's game-winning goal is her seventh score of the year as she is now averaging 1.16 goals per game.

After eight minutes of action, the Hawks (3-3) struck first as freshman midfielder Rachel Senyszyn (Succasunna, N.J.) posted the first score on the board, her fourth of the season. Senior defender Nicole Kogut (Swedesboro, N.J.) sent the ball through to Senyszyn who roped a left-footed shot over the head of sophomore goalkeeper Sherri Rosenberg to give MSU a 1-0 advantage.

With under two minutes remaining in the first half, Cook knotted the game at 1-all on an unassisted goal where she was able to split a pair of defenders to rip a shot through the lower right corner.

Following a scoreless second half that saw sophomore goalkeeper Jenn Pontier pull in five saves, the contest went into extra play as the score remained 1-1 after 90 minutes of action. With just 1:20 expired off the clock in overtime, Cook recorded her seventh goal of the season off a strong defensive play by sophomore forward Katria Misilo. Misilo came up strong when she blocked a clearing attempt by the Hawks and was able to run down the ball deep in the corner to get off a pass to junior midfielder/forward Leslie Kallberg. Kallberg crossed the ball to Cook who buried a header into the back of the net to lift Stevens to its fourth win of the year (4-1-1).

The Ducks out-shot the Hawks 15-14 as both teams posted six corner kicks. Pontier played the whole second half and overtime period as she registered six saves and the win (4-0-1). Junior goalkeeper Leah Tepperman (North Andover, Mass.) played the entire game as she was credited with the loss (3-3).

Stevens will return to play on Saturday when it hosts St. John Fisher College for the first Empire 8 contest of the year. Game time is slatted for a 3 p.m. start. You can catch the action live at www.Empire8.tv.
