HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 31, 2009) – Sophomore forward Kathleen Schuckers netted a pair of goals to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team past Nazareth College, 3-0, in its regular season finale at the De Baun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, N.J. Senior Katelyn Stewart, who was honored along with fellow seniors Hillary Paul and Sherri Rosenberg in a pregame ceremony as part of the Ducks' Senior Day festivities, netted her first goal of the 2009 campaign in the win.

Locked in a defensive struggle early, Stevens junior Katria Misilo generated the Ducks' first solid scoring chance on the day, pushing a shot just wide right of the net in the 26th minute. Nazareth junior midfielder Meghan Finn (Cortland, N.Y.) nearly broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when she beat a pair of Stevens defenders to a failed clearance before ripping a shot that prompted a sprawling save by sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlin McClymont. The Corpus Christi, Texas native recorded five saves in the half to preserve the scoreless tie.

The Golden Flyers, who held a decisive 10-3 shots advantage in the first half, nearly took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the second stanza when freshman forward Chelsea Kuss (Warners, N.Y.) found a streaking Christine Belding (Rochester, N.Y) in the middle of the box for what appeared to be a shot on an open net, but Stevens junior back Nicole Brand was able to close the distance, blocking down the Belding try.

Schuckers would help the Ducks finally breakthrough in the 55th minute, sending a free-kick following a Nazareth foul just above the top of the 18-yard box over the wall and senior goalkeeper Polly Muehlenkamp (Cincinnati, Ohio) for her eighth marker of the season. She would nearly put Stevens up two in the 61st minute when she eluded a Golden Flyer defender after receiving a Misilo throughball in the middle of the box and ripped an open shot that prompted a Muehlenkamp save.

Freshman Paige Allen would almost capitalize on a Nazareth mistake in the 69th minute, when she intercepted a Nazareth clearance and sent a bouncing shot from near midfield over the Golden Flyer keeper but just wide left. Stewart would capitalize on another Nazareth turnover at 73:28, blocking down an attempted clearance before making a run down the right side and firing a shot to the left side of the goal for her first goal of the year, giving Stevens a 2-0 advantage.

Schuckers closed out scoring in the 86th minute when she intercepted a pass and placed a shot into the back of the Nazareth net for her ninth tally of the season. McClymont, Rosenberg, and freshman Teegan Kelly combined to make eight saves to help Stevens to its sixth win of the season. The Ducks are now 6-11-0 overall on the year with a 5-3-0 league ledger, while Nazareth falls to 10-6-1 overall and 6-2-0 in conference play.

Stevens will next compete in the Empire 8 Tournament beginning Saturday, November 7.
