HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 12, 2009) – Freshman Teegan Kelly made a career-high 13 saves in her second collegiate start in net, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team fell to Allegheny College 2-0 in the opening match of the Sixth Annual Stevens Engineering Cup. Gators' senior forward Ashley Miller (North Huntington, Pa.) and freshman Katrina Gazsi (Lititz, Pa.) each netted goals to help Allegheny secure its third win of the season.

Miller opened up scoring early, putting an Ashley Lehr (Fairview, Pa.) pass into the back of the net for her first marker of the season, just 33 seconds into the match. Lear would also assist in Gazsi's tally in the 39th minute which gave the Gators a 2-0 advantage at the half.

Allegheny, which finished the match with a 26-6 shots advantage, would continue to apply pressure on the Stevens backline in the second half, controlling possession while building a 15-3 shots on goal edge. The Gators would nearly increase the Ducks' deficit to three in the 62nd minute, but Kelly punched Allegheny junior midfielder Nicole Mascia's (Smithtown, N.Y.) shot from 25-yards out just over the crossbar.

After Gators junior midfielder Molly Waggoner (North Syracuse, N.Y.) hit the post in the 73rd minute, Kelly made pair of stops on Allegheny sophomore forward Georgia Frost's (Weston, Conn.) breakaway run to keep Stevens within striking distance.

Kelly would continue her strong play, making five more stops down the stretch to keep the Ducks within two, but the Gator backline, which held Stevens at bay for much of the match, finished strong, allowing just one Ducks' shot on goal over the final 10 minutes of action.

Stevens junior Jennifer Pontier put two shots on net for the Ducks, with sophomore Sarah Lehman recording Stevens' only other shot on goal.

New York University defeated Ursinus College, 3-2, in the day's other match, thanks to goals by sophomore midfielder Erica Jones (Newton, Mass.) and junior back Katie Gaston (Benbrook, Texas). The Ducks will square off against Ursinus in the Engineering Cup consolation game set to kick-off at 12 p.m. on September 13, while the Bobcats face the Gators in the Engineering Cup championship game slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
