Box Score DANBURY, Conn. (October 26, 2011) – In the final non-conference game of the 2011 season for the No. 20 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team, the Ducks defeated the hosts from Western Connecticut State University, 1-0, on Wednesday evening, October 26. With the victory, Steven is now 11-3-3 overall and has won seven of its last eight contests.
The Ducks used a goal half way through the first 45 minutes by freshman Ann Heine (Sammamish, Wash.) and held onto the lead for the remainder of the game for the victory. Heine's tally was scored 21:40 into the opening half on an assist by senior Kathleen Schuckers (Lincoln Park, N.J.), who brought the ball down the left side of the field and beat a Western Conn. defender to find Heine for the game-winner.
Heine now has recorded a team-high eight goals on the season, while Schuckers handed out her team-best 10th assist.
Senior Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, Texas) earned her ninth victory of the season by stopping four shots in the first half. McClymont then gave way to junior Teegan Kelly (Charlton, N.Y.), who turned away five West. Conn. strikes in the final 45 minutes of action to combine on the shutout.
The shutout marks the eighth scoreless contest that Stevens has posted this year, which ranked 19th in the country in save percentage amongst all Division III institutions as a team earlier this week.
The Ducks and Colonials were deadlocked in shots at 15, while West. Conn. held a distinct advantage in corners, 6-1, and fouls, 11-1.
Stevens returns back to Castle Point for its Empire 8 Conference and season finale against Elmira College at 12 p.m. on October 29. The match will also be the Ducks' Senior Day event, and with a victory or draw, Stevens will earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Empire 8 Championships on November 5 and 6.
