Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 1, 2011) – On Thursday night at the De Baun Athletic Complex, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped its season-opener to Montclair State University, 2-1, in double overtime.

Neither team managed to put a tally on the board in the first half, although it was a physical game up-and-down the field.

Montclair State had the first real opportunity to score just 10 minutes into the contest on a breakaway, but senior goalkeeper Kaitlin McClymont left the net to contest the Redhawks forward and knocked the ball away to end the threat. MSU had another chance with just over 19 minutes left in the opening period with a 1-v-1 on McClymont, but the senior came up with an impressive save. McClymont finished the contest with 10 saves in 102:58 minutes of action.

As the second half started and the teams switched sides of the field, the Ducks did not take long to register their first goal of the season, netting a cross from senior Kathleen Schuckers that was challenged by a Redhawks defender but deflected to freshman Ann Heine, who sent the pass to the back of the goal just two and half minutes into the half.

Montclair was able to answer back with just eight minutes remaining in regulation on a free kick that deflected off the wall and went past McClymont. Senior Christina DeMartinis (Kinnelon, N.J.) took the free kick which knotted the score at one.

As the final minutes ticked off the clock in regulation, neither team was able to present a successful scoring chance, sending the game into extra time.

In the first extra frame, Stevens was not able to muster a shot, while Montclair took two. Neither of those two shots were on goal and another 10 minutes of play was on the horizon at De Baun.

As the second extra period began, Montclair seemed to be the team to capitalize on its opportunities and ended the game almost exactly three minutes into the final period. Freshman Kaila Fasano (Westwood, N.J.) sent a cross to fellow freshman Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, N.J.), who was able to put the pass between McClymont's leg and into the back of the net to end the contest.

Montclair held the advantage in shots, 22-14, and in corners, 7-2, four of which came in the waning minutes of the second half.

Stevens returns to action on Saturday, September 3 at 7 p.m., as it hosts New York University.
