FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (September 20, 2011) – On Tuesday afternoon, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the hosts from Farmingdale State College to end the Ducks five-game unbeaten streak. Stevens held a 1-0 lead after an early goal in the second half, but the Rams responded with a regulation goal in the 79th minute then ended the contest in the first overtime just 5:36 into the opening ten-minute golden-goal period.

The Ducks were first to record a tally on the scoreboard, as sophomore Bridgette Barden finished off a pass from senior Kathleen Schuckers in the 51st minute of action.

Stevens had two opportunities to go on top just six minutes into the match, but a shot by junior Nicole Serino was saved by the Rams goaltender. Just 40 seconds later, freshman Ann Heine had her strike blocked to dissolve the Ducks threat.

As the first half wound down, the Rams were able to fire three shots within three and a half minutes with only one on net, which was saved by senior Kaitlin McClymont for her only stop in the first 45 minutes.

McClymont played all 95:36 in net to suffer the loss and made four saves.

Seconds before the 80th minute ticked on the clock, Farmingdale was able to draw a foul within the 18-yard box and was rewarded a penalty kick. Senior Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y.) was chosen to take the PK and beat McClymont to deadlock the contest.

The Ducks were only able to take one more shot in regulation, but Schuckers' shot sailed high with just a minute left.

In the first and only overtime, Farmingdale controlled the ball until the gamewinning goal. The Rams managed two take two shots, including the decisive second score, and took a corner kick after the first shot.

Stevens found themselves on the wrong end of both shots and corners, as the Rams held the advantage in shots, 17-12, and corners, 6-1.

The Ducks return home after a three-game road trip to take on Empire 8 rival, Nazareth College on Saturday, September 24 at 11 a.m. The contest will be the first conference match for both teams.
