EWING, N.J. (October 17, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team fell to 9-5 on the season with a 3-0 loss to nationally ranked No. 18 The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night in a non-conference match. Last season, the Ducks played the Lions to a 1-1 tie in Hoboken.
TCNJ (13-1-1) tallied two early goals in the first 19 minutes of action to hand Stevens only its second shutout loss of the season and third setback to a nationally ranked opponent in less than a month.
Junior
Melissa Murphy (Pompton Plains, N.J.) stopped seven shots in the game, including four in the second half, one of which came on a penalty shot in the 73rd minute. Murphy is now 3-2 on the season with 19 saves in over 434 minutes of action.
Stevens took six shots in the contest but were unable to put any on target, while the Lions recorded 16 attempts. TCNJ also controlled corner kicks, 8-2.
The Ducks will be back at the De Baun Athletic Complex on Saturday for Senior Day against Empire 8 Conference rival St. John Fisher College at 12 p.m. Stevens' home season finale wraps up on the 24th when Western Connecticut State University visits Castle Point for a 7 p.m. showdown.
