MONTCLAIR, N.J. (October 2, 2012) – For the first time since 2009, the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team, ranked 25th in the nation, dropped back-to-back games after a 2-1 loss to No. 19 Montclair State University on October 2. With the setback, Stevens falls to 7-3 on the season, while Montclair improves to 11-0-1. Tuesday's match marked the second consecutive game in which the Ducks have played a top 25 team after playing 10-0 Ithaca College on September 29.
After Montclair netted the first two goals of the contest in the first 25 minutes, freshman forward
Carly Bean (Williamson, N.Y.) tallied the lone goal for the Ducks for her fifth goal of the season from 35 yards out. Bean registered her score six minutes after the final Montclair goal.
Montclair entered the match as one of the top offensive scoring teams in the nation as well as one of the toughest to score against. Through 11 matches, the Hawks tallied 44 goals to rank eighth in the country in scoring offense, while surrendering just two scores for a .174 goals against average to rank fifth.
In the second half, senior back
Paige Allen (Manalapan, N.J.) ripped back-to-back shots for the Ducks in a span of 1:16, but Montclair's goalkeeper
Gina Policastro turned each attempt away for two of her five saves in the contest.
The Ducks managed two more shots in the final seven minutes but one was saved and the other sailed wide of the frame.
Montclair outshot Stevens, 13-7, in the first half but the final 45 minutes were nearly even, as the Hawks held a slim 8-5 edge.

Teegan Kelly (Charlton, N.Y.) and junior
Melissa Murphy (Pequannock, N.J.) split time in goal for the Ducks. Kelly suffered the loss, making four saves in the first half, while Murphy made three stops in the final 45 minutes.
