HOUGHTON, N.Y. (October 6, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team fell on the road to the newest member of the Empire 8 Conference, Houghton College, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Stevens has dropped three straight matches and two consecutive Empire 8 contests for a 7-4 (2-2) record.
The Ducks fell behind early into the contest after Houghton tallied two scores in the first 9:25 of the match. Stevens was unable to cut the deficit in the first 45 minutes, and the Highlanders piled on added pressure with a third score in the 33rd minute.
As the second half got underway, Houghton padded its lead with a fourth tally at the 55:45 mark, before the Ducks answered with their lone score on the afternoon just two minutes later by junior back
Lindsay Stoll (Bellevue, Wash.).
Stoll cashed in on a corner attempt from junior forward
Jessie Wos (Mukwonago, Wis.) that was booted around inside the box before Stoll corralled the ball and beat Houghton's goalkeeper.
Houghton's fifth and final marker came in the final minutes of the contest to account for the match outcome.
Senior
Teegan Kelly (Charlton, N.Y.) took the loss but made four saves in the first half before giving way to junior
Melissa Murphy (Pequannock, N.J.). Murphy made two stops in the second frame.
The Ducks outshot Houghton, 25-16, and kept the Highlanders off the board in corner kicks, while Stevens recorded two chances.
Stevens plays another Empire 8 game tomorrow at Alfred University at 1 p.m.
