HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 12, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team battled through a scoreless deadlock with Vassar College through 88 minutes of play until sophomore forward Ann Heine (Sammamish, Wash.) and junior forward Kyle Stephens (Lansing, Mich.) netted back-to-back goals in 30 seconds to give Stevens the victory. With the win, the Ducks are now 4-1 on the season and have recorded three shutouts.

After Stevens sent a ball over the end line as the game clock flipped to the 89th minute, Vassar was awarded a goal kick. On the ensuing service, Heine won possession after tying up with a Brewers defender and raced towards the goal. Heine put enough on her game-winning shot as a three-way collision happened in the box.

Twenty-nine seconds later, Stevens picked up a free kick from 35 yards out and junior forward Lindsay Stoll (Bellevue, Wash.) took a rip from the spot of the foul. Vassar's goalkeeper, Ali Higgins made a terrific save on the shot but her momentum carried her into the net which left Stephens with a wide open doorstep put back and ended the Brewers' chance of a comeback.

Heine now has six goals on the season and has scored in each of the Ducks' five contests this year. Stephens and Stoll each picked up their second goal and assist, respectively, on the season.

The Ducks had a great opportunity in the 21st minute of the game off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.) that found a leaping freshman forward Carly Bean (Williamson, N.Y.) in the box. Bean's header attempted rocked off the crossbar and went out of play to end the threat.

Freshman Evelyn Ting (Gaithersburg, Md.) picked up her second victory and shutout of the season with one save in all 90 minutes of play.

Stevens dominated in the shots category, 19-4, and held a slight edge in corners, 4-1.

The Ducks travel to Hartwick College on Saturday for their first Empire 8 Conference match at 1 p.m.
