MADISON, N.J. (September 26, 2012) – The nationally ranked No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team controlled the offensive tempo throughout the entirety of a 1-0 road victory at Drew University on Wednesday evening in Madison, N.J. Stevens outshot the Rangers, 31-6, to improve to 7-1 overall on the season. The Ducks also moved up to No. 3 in the NSCAA East Region poll which was released yesterday.
Freshman forward
Carly Bean (Williamson, N.Y.) netted the lone goal of the match in the opening seconds of the eighth minute off a corner kick from
Lauren Hammerle (Sayville, N.J.). Hammerle's service into the box was booted around for a few moments before Bean corralled the ball and beat Drew's goalkeeper
Kim Jaikissoon to pick up her first game-winning goal of her career.
If not for 15 saves by Jaikissoon in the game, the Ducks could have run away with a blowout victory. On four different occasions on the night, Stevens ripped off five or more shots before Drew maintain any offensive control.
In the 25th minute of the contest, the Rangers were awarded a penalty kick which would have knotted the score at one a piece. Senior goalkeeper
Teegan Kelly (Charlton, N.Y.) guessed right on the shot to record one of her two saves on the night and earn her third victory of the season. Kelly picked up her first shutout of the season as well.
Corner kicks were nearly even, as the Ducks held a slight edge, 6-4.
Stevens returns home for a top-25 Empire 8 Conference showdown with No. 7 Ithaca College at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Ithaca brings a perfect 8-0 record into the match and reached the Final Four in last year's NCAA Championship.
