HAMPTON, Va. (January 11, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team earned its first victory of the season in a 32-6 bout with Anderson University at the Virginia Duals on Friday morning. Senior All-America Joey Favia (Brick, N.J.) also recorded his 100th career victory in the triumph.

Favia, ranked third in the nation, became just the second Duck ever to eclipse 100 career wins in the program's 31-year history with a 15-5 major decision outcome against Jamal Lackey in the 165-lb. showdown. The senior also improves his season mark to 13-1 with his fourth major decision win this year.

Sophomore Anthony Geiger (South Amboy, N.J.) picked up four points for the Ducks at 125 with a 9-0 shutout major decision win overGreg Williams.

Junior Cody Curtiss (Frisco, Texas) took down Eric DeAngelis in 6:20 at 141 before sophomore Mike Polizzi (Montville, N.J.) tailled a forfeit victory at 149.

Anderson would tally its final win of the bout at 157 by decision before Favia scored his milestone victory and changed momentum of the bout. At 174, freshman Kalen Gans (Palo Alto, Calif.) took down Robbey Pye 7-1 for the decision to give the Ducks their first lead of the match.

The final three Ducks grapplers all scored decision wins to round out the dual.

Freshman Mark Garrity (Stafford, Va.) prevailed 7-2 over Zack Farmer at 184, and then sophomore Chris Florek (Mendham, N.J.) topped Bryan Glace, 11-5, in the 197-lb. bout.

Senior Brian Schmalz (Colts Neck, N.J.) closed out the match at 285 with a 4-2 win against Zach Newton.

Stevens returns to the mats at 2 p.m. tomorrow for a semifinal match against a team still to be announced.
