NEW YORK CITY (January 11, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology indoor track & field teams competed at the Gotham Cup in New York City throughout Friday at the New York Armory. Six different Stevens student-athletes qualified for ECACs, while two of them set new school records.
For the women, freshman
Amy Regan (Green Brook, N.J.) shattered another school record by 31 seconds in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:14.58. Regan topped the old mark en route to an ECAC-qualifying performance.
Senior
Alina Duran (West New York, N.J.) posted the second-best distance in the weight throw of 55 feet, 2 inches (16.81 meters) which was also a personal best. Duran re-established her ECAC mark with the toss on Friday.
Ducks' junior
Kelly Freed (Rutherford, N.J.) and freshman
Gladys Njoku (Cedar Grove, N.J.) also qualified for ECACs with strong efforts in 1,000 and high jump events, respectively. Freed came within .03 seconds of a new school mark with a final time of 3:07.54 in the 1,000, while Njoku tied a school-best with a cleared height 5'3”.
On the men's side, junior
Michael Cahill (Clark, N.J.) bested his previous best in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:15.69, which was good for a school record mark and an ECAC bid.
Senior
Victor Servito (Teaneck, N.J.) also ran a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles and qualified for ECACs in a time of 8.49 seconds. Servito came within .01 seconds of the school record.
The Ducks return to competition on January 19 at the Great Dane Classic back in New York City.
