MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (January 19, 2013) – Stevens Institute of Technology freshmen
Gladys Njoku (Cedar Grove, N.J.) and
Amy Regan (Green Brook, N.J.) establish school records in high jump and mile for women's indoor track & field at Wesleyan University Invitational. Two men's athletes place first in high jump and weight throw to highlight the meet.
Senior
Andrew Kraemer (Budd Lake, N.J.) took top honors in the weight throw with a toss of 49 feet, 3.75 inches, while sophomore
Robert Pinto (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed first with a cleared height of 6'2.75” (1.90 meters) in the high jump.
Senior
Victor Servito (Teaneck, N.J.) recorded two second place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and pole vault for the Ducks. Servito posted a time of 8.56 seconds in the hurdles for an ECAC qualifying mark and cleared the bar at 11'11.75” in the pole vault.
Sophomore
Kristopher Alvarez (Hainesport, N.J.) finished third in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.72, while freshman
Shane Chiravalle (Danbury, Conn.) recorded a time of 9.05 seconds to place fourth in the same event.
For the women, Njoku qualified for ECAC's with her school record of 5'3.75” in the high jump and placed first. Regan also qualified for ECAC's in the mile with a time of 5:17.91.
Senior
Alina Duran (West New York, N.J.) prevailed over all other competitors in the weight throw with a distance of 52'7.25” for an ECAC mark, while junior
Rebecca Tylock (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took first in the pole vault with a height of 10'4”.
Sophomore
Amira Dardir (Jersey City, N.J.) was runner-up in the high jump and pole vault events with marks of 4'11.75” and 9'4.25”, respectively. Junior
Tiffany Evangelou (Fair Lawn, N.J.) ran a time of 9.78 seconds in the 60 hurdles to place third overall.
Yesterday, the distance medley relay teams competed at the Great Dane Classic hosted by SUNY Albany in New York City.
The women's team of Regan, junior
Ashley Princiotta (Manalapan, N.J.), sophomore
Kelly Freed (Rutherford, N.J.) and freshman
Samantha Shiner (Exeter, Pa.) ran a time of 12:58.52 to place fifith.
The men also placed fifth overall with a time of 10:46.18. Their team was made up of juniors
Michael Cahill (Clark, N.J.) and
Louis Stengel (Vernon, N.J.), sophomore
Brian Lawrey Jr. (Andover, N.J.) and freshman
Tom Halleran (Oakland, N.J.).
