WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (March 30, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the Monmouth University Season Opener in West Long Branch, N.J. on Saturday. Four ECAC marks and three school records were set between the two teams in Stevens' second meet of the spring. No team scoring was recorded in the meet.
For the women, freshman
Alexandra Doyle (Colts Neck, N.J.) set a school record and qualified for ECAC's with a mark of 36.97 meters (121 feet, 3 inches) in the discus to place 10th overall. Doyle surpassed the old record by more than six meters which was set back in 2001.
Senior
Grace Python (Glenmont, N.Y.) also posted an ECAC standard in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.57 meters (146'3”). Python finished seventh overall out of 27 competitors in the event.
With another school record to her credit, freshman
Amy Regan (Green Brook, N.J.) ran a time of 4:53.70 in the 1,500-meter race. Regan topped the old mark by just over one second.
Junior
Rebecca Tylock (Shrewsbury, Mass.) registered the best individual finish for the women at third overall in the pole vault. Tylock cleared the bar at 3.00 meters (9'10”) as the only Division III athlete in the event.
Senior
Ashley Princiotta (Manalapan, N.J.) rounded out the highlights for the women with a personal best and school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:53.37. Princiotta's time topped the old mark by 11 seconds of 19:04.23 set back in 2008.
For the men, junior
Michael Cahill (Clark, N.J.) finished as the runner-up in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:11.65. Cahill qualified for ECAC's and set a new school standard by 20 seconds.
Senior
Victor Servito (Teaneck, N.J.) ran a time of 15.37 seconds in the 110-meters hurdles for an ECAC mark and also placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters (6'.75”).
Also with a fifth place finish, senior
Sebastian Luna (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) threw the javelin 57.49 meters (188'7”).
Both teams compete again at Ramapo College on April 6 at 10 a.m.
