SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 17, 2013)
– The Stevens Institute of Technology men's and women's outdoor track & field teams completed competition at the ECAC Outdoor Championships on Friday at Springfield College's Blake Track and Field with three more school records broken. Stevens' men's squad finished the championships in 11th place out of 60 institutions at the meet.

Two members on the women's side re-established new standards in the high jump and heptathlon events. Freshman Gladys Njoku (Cedar Grove, N.J.) finished sixth overall in the high jump with a mark of 1.64 meters (5 feet, 4.5 inches) and was one of five leapers to clear the bar at that height. Sophomore Amira Dardir (Jersey City, N.J.) totaled 3,930 points in the heptathlon to place eighth overall. Dardir was eighth after Day One of the competition and topped her previous school record by 50 points.

For the men, sophomore Robert Pinto (Staten Island, N.Y.) also surpassed a school standard in the high jump and finished third out of 25 participants. Pinto's previous best mark was 1.98 meters and he moved past that with a leap of 2.01 meters (6 feet, 7 inches) today. He was just two inches shy of taking first overall in the event.

"This was a great championship for Stevens Track & Field. We had a number of personal bests and school records and even more importantly the student-athletes competed well against the top competition on the east coast." said head coach Justin Wood.

"I'm proud of everything that the athletes have accomplished this year and I know that we are all excited next year!"

Stevens will find out on Sunday if any members of the team will compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 23 to 25.
