EWING, N.J. (August 31, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team dropped its second game of the season at The College of New Jersey Classic to nationally ranked No. 13 William Smith College, 6-2, on Saturday afternoon. Stevens went up, 2-1, early in the first half but William Smith rolled off four consecutive scores over the 78 minutes of the contest.

After the Herons netted the first goal of the match just 3:25 into the showdown, junior Ann Heine (Sammamish, Wash.) knotted the contest up at 1-1 at the 10:22 mark off a pass from junior Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.). Cleveland sent a strike off the crossbar where Heine was waiting to collect the rebound and beat William Smith's goalkeeper.

Not even two minutes later, freshman Raba Nassif (Northvale, N.J.) earned her first collegiate goal and staked Stevens to a 2-1 lead off a left-footed shot inside the box. Nassif corralled a pass from senior Bridgette Barden (Redondo Beach, Calif.) for the equalizer.

In the waning seconds of the opening half, William Smith dead-locked the match at 2-2 on the fourth assisted score of the frame.

The Herons wasted no time to regain the lead in the second half, as they scored after only 3:20 ran off the clock. From there, William Smith seemed to take over the contest with six consecutive shots within a seven-minute span and found the back of the net on the seventh attempt for a 4-2 advantage in the 56th minute. Stevens sophomore goalkeeper Evelyn Ting (Gaithersburg, Md.) stopped three shots during the barrage to make up her total of seven in the loss.

William Smith added two late goals in the final four minutes to round out the offensive scoring and the eventual 6-2 decision.

Stevens was outshot, 23-9, and witnessed William Smith take 11 corners to just two for the Ducks.

The Ducks will kick off their home opener on September 7 against Vassar College as part of the Tenth Annual Stevens Engineering Cup at 11 a.m. Haverford College and New York University will take to the pitch after the Stevens/Vassar contest at approximately 2 p.m. Live stats and Empire8.tv webcast will be provided for all four matches during the weekend.
