MAHWAH, N.J. (September 11, 2013) - The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team used four second half goals to defeat host Ramapo College, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon. Stevens is now 2-3 on the season after its second consecutive shutout.
The Ducks struck just seconds into the 12th minute of the match as junior
Ann Heine (Sammamish, Wash.) notched the game-winner off a pass from freshman
Gabby Mathelier (Pomona, N.Y.). It is the second goal Heine has scored in the early season.
Stevens turned up the offense after intermission and tallied four goals in a 24-minute span of the second half. Mathelier assisted on the Ducks' second marker from junior
Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.) just 3:39 into final 45 minutes.
After a score from junior
Stephanie Basile (Macungie, Pa.) in the 60th minute, Mathelier completed her breakout performance with the final two goals of the contest which amounted to her six-point total in the victory. Her first goal came just 28 seconds after Basile found the back of the net and her second took place in the 73rd minute.
Sophomore sophomoreÂ
Leah Spaulding (San Pedro, Calif.) picked up the win in goal for the Ducks in just over 60 of action with four saves. Fellow sophomore
Evelyn Ting (Gaithersburg, Md.)Â replaced Spaulding for the final 30 minutes and stopped one shot.
The Ducks outshot Ramapo, 17-10, and took six corners to only two for the Roadrunners.
Next up for Stevens will be Farmingdale State College on September 18 at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
