ALFRED, N.Y. (October 12, 2014) - The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team recorded it's fourth straight victory with a 5-0 shutout of Alfred University on Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference match up.
Stevens is now 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8. Over the last four contests, the Ducks have outscored their opponents, 18-2.
Neither team could score over the first 15 minutes of play, but Stevens quickly turned a scoreless tie into a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in 16 seconds.
Freshman
Megan Lynes (Clovis, Calif.) notched the gamewinner on a shot from 20 yards out and then sophomore
Raba Nassif (Northvale, N.J.) followed with her 13th goal of the season.
With 10 seconds left in the first half, senior
Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.) sent the Ducks into the break with a 3-0 advantage on a free kick just outside of the 18.
Senior
Georgia Johnson (Freehold, N.J.) put in both Ducks goals in the second half. Johnson's first tally came in the 55th minute and her second was posted just ticks into the 59th minute.
Junior
Evelyn Ting (Gaithersburg, Md.) and freshman
Lindsey Mahnken (Bayville, N.J.) split time in goal for Stevens. Ting made three saves, while Mahnken stopped one.
The Ducks outshot Alfred, 27-4, and held a distinct edge in corners, 8-0.
Stevens hosts No. 21 Nazareth College on October 18 at 2 p.m. Both teams are tied for second in the Empire 8 heading into next weekend's showdown.
