PITTSFORD, N.Y. (October 4, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team picked up a pair of Empire 8 Conference victories at St. John Fisher College on Saturday. Stevens is now 17-3 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8 with its ninth-straight win.
Stevens 3, St. John Fisher 1The Ducks dropped their opening set of Saturday's first match at Fisher, 22-25, but bounced back to secure the victory with 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 victories in the final three games. Four players for Stevens tallied at least 10 or more kills in the contest and the Ducks notched nine service aces.
Sophomore
Mary Tobin (Boothwyn, Pa.) paced all players with 16 kills on a .324 hitting percentage and picked up her seventh double-double of the season with 17 digs.
Freshman
Brianna Evans (Spokane, Wash.) was next in line in the kills department with 14 to go along with eight digs, while sophomore
Christina Sciarra (Montclair, N.J.) posted 11 kills with four digs, an ace and block.
Senior
Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) put down 10 kills in the victory with eight digs and a match-high-tying three aces. Freshman
Sydni Horner (Columbia, Md.) also registered three aces with three assists, but led the way defensively in the match with 27 digs.
Fellow senior
Ashley Castillo (Cresskill, N.J.) dished out a match-best 48 assists and added eight digs while junior
Annemarie Thomas (Durham, N.C.) chipped in six kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
Junior
Catie Shelton (Central Square, N.Y.) added five digs.
Stevens 3, Alfred 0Stevens remained unbeaten in conference play with a sweep of the Saxons, 25-16, 25-12, 25-12. The Ducks led from the first point of the match and were only tied with Alfred four separate times. Stevens hit .261 in the contest, while the Saxons swung at a -.043 clip.
At the service line, Stevens posted 12 more aces.
Unlike the first match, no players reached double-digit kills. Evans recorded a match-high with nine, while Thomas and Sciarra each put down seven. Thomas hit .353 overall and Sciarra posted a .350 hitting percentage.
Evans also added five digs and Sciarra registered four.
Tobin chipped in six kills with four digs, while Castillo and Shelton each handed out 16 assists a piece. Shelton had three aces as well.
Horner played exceptionally well defensively with 20 digs in a three-set match.

Emilee Erickson (Wildwood, Ill.) each contributed two aces.
The Ducks are back at home on October 8 against Vassar College at 7 p.m.
