JERSEY CITY, N.J. (February 16, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing program rolled to a 4-0 day at NJIT Sunday, improving its record to 25-8 and extending its winning streak to eight matches in the process.
The Ducks won 24-3 over Drew University as epee went a perfect 9-0, foil went 8-1 and sabre tallied a mark of 7-2. Stevens defeated Lafayette College 24-3 as well with sabre going 8-1, and the Ducks tallied 18-9 victories over both Rutgers University and Cornell University. Sabre was 7-2 against Rutgers and epee was 8-1 against Cornell.
Sophomore
Logan Koester went a perfect 11-0 to lead the Ducks overall and in epee. Junior
Jorge Rojas was 6-0 in foil action, and rookie
Michael Szczesniak compiled a 9-2 mark in sabre to lead that unit. In addition, freshman
Joseph Falvo was 6-2 in sabre, with freshman
Kirk Visser going 7-2 in epee and freshman
Stephen Rienzi going 7-3 in the same weapon.
The regular-season is now over for the Ducks as they will compete in the College Squad Championships next Sunday to open postseason fencing.
