WASHINGTON, Pa. (September 27, 2014) - Despite goals from three different players and two assists from freshman 
Victoria Alvarez (Pine Beach, N.J.), the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team was downed by Washington & Jefferson College by a score of 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium in Washington, Pa.
With the loss, Stevens falls to 1-2 in the conference and 4-6 overall. W&J moves to 3-0 in the Empire 8 and 7-2 on the season with the victory. The Presidents ended the game with a 24-16 margin in shots, but the Ducks finished the contest with a 24-13 edge in penalty corners. Stevens also finished the game with three-straight corners - two with the clock reading 0:00 - but was unable to score, hitting a post on one bid and seeing its final two bids blocked by the W&J defense.
Sophomore goalie 
Emily Stukenborg (Stockholm, N.J.) made 12 saves in a losing effort for Stevens, while W&J goalie Karlie Baran made five denials in the win for the hosts. The Ducks also had four defensive saves on the afternoon with sophomore 
Nolie Prouty (Glendora, Calif.), junior 
Erin Silvestri (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman 
Cassidy O'Hearn (Silver Spring, Md.) all tallying at least one. O'Hearn had a pair of defensive stops for the Ducks.
After W&J jumped on top 57 seconds into the action, Stevens settled in and scored the game's next two goals, eventually bringing a 2-1 lead into the halftime intermission. Junior
 Dailyn Brook (Cherry Hill, N.J.) scored the first marker for the Ducks, with Alvarez assisting, and senior 
Jillian Fiebel (Roxbury, N.J.) acocunted for the second Stevens tally which was also from Alvarez.
W&J came out strong in the second and quickly regained the lead at 3-2, notching two goals before six minutes had elapsed. Even with all the momentum and crowd behind W&J, the Ducks were able to come back, finding an equalizer at 46:48 from freshman 
Haines Duff (New Bedford, N.J.) via a deflection. The tally for the newcomer was the first of her young career.
The two squads played the next 19:29 of game time without a goal, but the Presidents were able to record the game-winner in the 66th minute to improve to 3-0 in the conference.
Stevens will look get back in the win column on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. when it hosts in-state rival and ninth-ranked Montclair State University at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. All the action will be webcast live via www.stevensducks.com.
