ELMIRA, N.Y. (September 27, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 Empire 8 Conference loss at Elmira College on Saturday to fall to 5-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Empire 8.
Despite outshooting Elmira, 25-11, Stevens surrendered three late second half goals in the setback. The Ducks were also awarded 12 corner kicks to just two for the Soaring Eagles, including a 6-0 edge in the first half.
Sophomore
Raba Nassif (Northvale, N.J.) buried a penalty kick into the right corner of goal in the 40th minute to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Nassif took eight shots in the contest with four on goal.
Elmira notched the equalizer in the 76th minute of the first of two goals from Sara Kazerouni off a pass from Amy Sullivan.
Kazerouni notched the game-winner in the 83rd minute off a feed from Allie Olsen, and then Mackenzie Donohue put the match out of reach with Elmira's third marker with just 1:36 left in the contest.
Junior
Evelyn Ting (Gaithersburg, Md.) made six saves in a losing effort, but was overshadowed by eight saves from Soaring Eagles' goalkeeper, Gabe Carmona, who stopped eight shots (all in the second half).
Trailing 2-1, Stevens attempted to knot things up with four shots over a 2:42 span, but three attempts were saved and another sailed wide of frame.
The Ducks will look to rebound on September 30 against Eastern University at 7 p.m. in Hoboken before four straight conference tilts from October 4 to October 18.
